Delegates

An academic installation ceremony is the formal charging of a new institutional leader by the state of North Carolina through its representatives, the president of the University of North Carolina System, the UNC Board of Governors and the East Carolina University Board of Trustees. Dr. Philip Rogers will be formally installed as ECU’s 12th chancellor on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at 10 a.m. in Wright Auditorium.

As with all formal academic ceremonies, the installation will include an academic procession with participants wearing academic regalia. The procession will include governors, trustees, faculty, higher-education leaders and the platform party.

There are TWO ways for ECU faculty to participate in the formal installation ceremony as described below:

Institutional Delegate

An institutional delegate is an ECU faculty member who earned a degree from another institution and intends to represent that institution during the formal installation ceremony. These faculty will participate in the ceremony processional to start the installation and will be listed in the event program.

Institutional delegates must have approval from the chancellor or president of the institution they are representing. This can be in written or email form. It is the responsibility of the ECU faculty member to contact and attain this permission. ECU faculty cannot participate as an institutional delegate without this approval, and approval must be received no later than March 10 for inclusion in the installation program.

ECU Faculty Delegate

An ECU faculty delegate is an ECU faculty member who intends to participate in the installation ceremony as a representative of their college (e.g., ECU College of Business, ECU College of Nursing, etc.).

ECU faculty delegates will participate in the ceremony processional to start the installation but will not be listed in the program booklet.

Written approval is not required to be an ECU faculty delegate.
